WDC

The World Dance Council (WDC) is a leading international organization founded in 1950 (originally as ICBD) to develop and regulate ballroom dancing. It unites professionals and amateurs from more than 60 countries.

The goals of the WDC:
- Setting world standards in technology, music and costumes for ballroom dancing.
- Organization of prestigious competitions, including world championships.
- Support dancers, coaches and judges through educational programs and professional development.

The WDC preserves the traditions of dance art, ensuring its recognition as a sport and cultural heritage.

It is with immense joy and pleasure that I officially welcome the National Dance Council of Cyprus 🇨🇾 to the World Dance Council family!

Cyprus was a member of our world for many years, but as many will appreciate, and certainly not uniquely, struggled to thrive during and in the aftermath of COVID 19.

Nonetheless, our new members are finally up and running and so, we are delighted to be the catalyst to growth in yet another country coming back to the fold.

Dear dancers, teachers, judges, and officials of the Cyprus National Dance Council of the WDC!

It is my pleasure and honor to welcome you and congratulate you on a new chapter in the development of dance in Cyprus.

The World Dance Council has a long and great history and traditions. Its goals have always been to promote dancing all over the world and to support dancers and teachers in their wish to develop beautiful, honest, deep, sensitive and high-quality dance.

As a Vice-President of the WDC I am so happy that Cyprus’s dancers, teachers, and judges are part of our family.

About our mission

The official representative office of WDC in Cyprus is engaged in the development and promotion of ballroom dancing and dance sports in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
Main areas of activity:

- Organization of local tournaments and events under the auspices of the WDC (competitions for professionals and amateurs).
- Certification of dancers, coaches and judges according to WDC standards.
- Promotion of educational programs (master classes, seminars with the participation of international experts).
- Registration of participants for the international WDC championships from Cyprus.
- Cooperation with local dance schools and clubs to promote ballroom dancing.
